Plant Walk
Denver City Park Arboretum

City Park contains over 3000 trees representing hundreds of different species. On this Plant Walk you will explore the arboretum collections, guided by Ben Rickenbacker, a Forestry Operations Supervisor and ISA Certified Arborist with the City Forester’s office. You’ll see various botanical collections, state champion listed trees, gardens and other sites of horticultural interest along the walk.

One tree of special note is the Shakespeare Elm that was planted in 1916. It came from a cutting of the Wych Elm from Shakespeare’s gravesite at the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon. Over the last century, the tree has managed to survive both heedless teenagers and the bouts of Dutch elm disease that have felled many of its contemporaries, and it now stands as an unlikely legacy of the world’s greatest poet.

Don’t miss this Plant Walk to learn the history and significance of some of Denver’s great trees.

The Plant Walk is free to attend but registration is required. Sign up here.
