People Who Strengthen CNGA and the Industry

Each year, CNGA recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to CNGA and the industry. The following awards are presented to individuals each year at the annual Industry Celebration:

Hall of Fame - This prestigious award is presented to an individual who, throughout their career, has demonstrated leadership and commitment resulting in overall improvements to the industry.

Horizon - This award acknowledges an individual who has been in the industry less than five years, exhibits the qualities and high standards exemplifying CNGA, and during that time has made a significant contribution to a CNGA firm.

Person of the Year - This award recognizes an individual who in the last 12 months has made a positive impact on the regional horticulture industry through their involvement, actions or participation in the promotion of professionalism, creativity and involvement for the betterment of the industry.

2017 Award Winners

Kent Broome | Hall of Fame Award

Kent has consistently demonstrated strong support for CNGA and the industry. He was instrumental in reviving the Grown In Colorado® trademark, creating chapters and a stronger presence in New Mexico and Wyoming. He served on the CNGA Board of Directors from 2001- 2011 and as the Board President for 2010 and 2011. He has been on the Japanese Beetle Steering committee and ProGreen Board of Directors. Kent has worked for many horticulture companies throughout his career, most notably Bailey Nurseries for 22 years and currently works for Baxter Nursery.

Diana Reavis | Person of the Year Award

Diana has a great passion for the industry and promotion of Colorado horticulture. Her history in production and unbridled enthusiasm for plants makes her a great ally for her customers as she continually brings them the best in horticulture. She is a member of the Colorado State University Trial Garden Committee, she volunteers for Plant Select and was a key member of the local committee for the Perennial Plant Association Conference in 2017.

Sarah Wong Cooper | Horizon Award

Sara is a recipient of this award for her many accomplishments at Silver Sage Garden Center and for her drive to further her education and learn. She’s actively involved with CNGA, became a Colorado Certified Nursery Professional (CCNP) and now volunteers to help others obtain their certification. She sits on CNGA's Communications Committee and writes articles for LooseLeaf Magazine.


Shannon Eversley & Alex Tisthammer  | Horizon Award

These women are recognized for their contributions and success as two members of a three-person outdoor management team. Their creativity and energy are part of what keeps local businesses moving forward. Both are continuously looking to learn and take on more responsibility, which is imperative to the growth of an organization. They helped restructure the outdoor management team to increase department functionality and they have an outstanding knowledge of plant material. They possess great attitudes and energy and are able and willing to work in many different departments.
